MAKE IT EASIER: OLDER PEOPLE AND THE DIGITAL GENERATION GAP IN ITALY

The aim of my project was depicting the digital generation gap in my country and its most important implication. For this reason, the first part of my project is focused on an overview of Internet in Italy and the effects of using internet for older people (defined as >65 years old). Continua a leggere

MAKE IT EASIER: HOW INTERNET CAN HELP OLDER PEOPLE HOME

In my major project I would like to focus on the way Internet could benefit older people in my country, at the light of the Australian Bureau Statistics’ research.

The stakeholders of my research are both Internet Providers (particularly Telecom Italia, because it is keen on this topic with the project “Navigare insieme”) and technological institutes. In my research I would also like to consider the introduction of electronic voting as a good way to facilitate older disabled people to exercise the right to vote.

At this purpose, I would like to make some interviewes to older people of my country (defined as being 65 years old or over, according to the Australian Bureau Statistics) and combining the results of the interviewes with some similar researches.

I would like to present the findings of my research as a PDF report with some charts and I would also like to make a video about the most relevant findings.

PUBLIC RULES AND RESTRICTIONS ARE NOT ENOUGH

For most people going to a cinema is a good night out. Only a few realize that they are often subjecting themselves to extreme and privacy invading security measures that most airports could only dream of. Filmgoers are already being carefully watched for suspicious behavior by Big Brother’s cameras, but soon this technology will be upgraded with sophisticated emotion recognition software. A MULTITASKING “SLOWNESS”

“Speed is the form of ecstasy the technical revolution has bestowed on man. As opposed to a motorcyclist, the runner is always present in his body, forever required to think about his blisters, his exhaustion; when he runs he feels his weight, his age, more conscious than ever of himself and of his time of life. This all changes when man delegates the faculty of speed to a machine: from then on, his own body is outside the process, and he gives over to a speed that is noncorporeal, nonmaterial, pure speed, speed itself, ecstasy speed”

SlownessKundera‘Slowness’ is one of the best book I’ve ever read in my life. It was written in 1995 by an extraordinary Milan Kundera. Continua a leggere

AN IDEA OF PRIVACY: MY SHORT REFLECTION

– When did you learn about privacy for the first time?

Our lecturer asked us during this week tutorial. I looked around me and I saw many faces thinking about it. Then I started to think about me and my own idea of privacy. But nothing came to my mind. I’m serious, I don’t really remember when and where I learnt about privacy. Continua a leggere

MY FIRST AUSTRALIAN MOVIE EXPERIENCE

At the end of the last tutorial me and Lisa made an arrangement for when/where/ go to the movies and what to see. A very easy and nice negotiation! We decided to go to the movies on Friday, because she had no classes in this day and I finished mine in the early morning. Then we made a fast research on google to see which are the cinema in Wollongong (it was fast because there is just a cinema, the Great Union in the city centre!) and we looked at its program schedule. IS DIGITAL GENERATION GAP GONE BY? THE ADSL IN MY COUNTRY

– Grandma, do you have a fast connection in your house?

– What? Sorry, can you repeat? There’s a bad connection!

– Nothing grandma, I was joking.

Do you remember my grandma? Yes, that beautiful 74 years old woman from Italy. Actually, she has no idea of what internet is and how it runs. In case of necessity, she uses my parents’ connection and devices. But seldom if ever.
Are you surprised? Continua a leggere

NO AUDIENCE, NO ADVERTISERS: THE IMPORTANCE OF MEASURING

Why is important measuring the audience? That’s a deep question. As we read on AUDITEL‘s official website, that is the italian audience measurement major, “the measurement of audience is necessary to plan advertising spaces, that are essential to support televisions”. Continua a leggere
